Want to know what fashion trends are destined to be big in the New Year? Our creative director, Bec, gives you her top five here.
This saturated blue is back in the forefront of fashion next year thanks to it’s inherent synergy with both nature and technology, according to WGSN. It’ll look great paired with gold and dark wood tones and become especially strong in the accessories market, with Marc Jacobs and Off-White having shown the shade.
Note: You might be experiencing a little deja vu here, and yes, it appeared on runways a few seasons ago but “it didn’t really go anywhere for many people but now it’s cool again,” Bec says.
WASTE NOT WANT NOT
As Vivienne Westwood famously said, “Buy well, choose less, make it last.” And finally, the mantra might be catching on. “Transparency in brands and products is key, with all ethics and sustainability above board,” Bec says.”Designing for longevity will be the norm, with Longina Phillips Designs seeing a definate trend towards non seasonal prints.”
“With the rise of Consume Less we’re seeing a nostalgic rise in vintage looks for womenswear,” she says. The focus will be on prairie prints and styling, peasant-style silhouettes and long-line tiered dresses. Look to The Vampires Wife and Horror Vacui for some of the best examples of this new take.
Go big or go home. “It’s all about hand-created artwork for an authentic vintage feel,” Bec says. “Get out those paint brushes and paint your flowers in their purest forms. Loose brush strokes and movement are key.”
We’ve seen progress on gender diversity, cultural diversity, size diversity and now in 2020, age inclusivity will finally on be on the radar. “We saw [mature aged models] on the Tome and Dries Van Noten spring summer 202o runways and there are entire Insta accounts dedicated to embracing your grey hair no matter your age,” Bec says. Hallelujah!
