2 Minute Tutorial: Create a Peony Bunch

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

Ever wished you could peer over the shoulder of an experienced designer and watch her design in Photoshop? Well, today you can.

Sara is creating a peony bunch using pre-painted scanned elements. You can replicate this exact exercise because we’re giving you these same ready-made elements from The Creative Elements fo’ free!*

1: OPEN YOUR FILE:

Start with an A3 size blank canvas.

2. OPEN YOUR ELEMENTS:

This peony set is brought to you by our sister site, The Creative Elements, where you can buy pre-painted elements for your personal projects for as little as $12USD (elements for commercial projects are from $95USD, but think about how much time you’ll save if you don’t have to paint that tricky flower yourself)!

3. DEEP ETCH YOUR ELEMENTS:

Using either the quick select tool or magic wand eraser, separate the elements from the background. Copy and paste each one onto it’s own individual layer.

4. HERO FLOWER PLACEMENT:

“I start to create my arrangement by deciding where I’d like my initial flowers and leaves to fall,” Sara says. It’s best to start with the largest ‘hero’ flower as this is what the eye will be drawn to in the finished design.

5. EDIT FLOWER ELEMENTS:

“I play around with changing colour and contrast within the elements to make them more unique to my end design.”

6. DUPLICATE FLOWER ELEMENTS:

“I duplicate my bunches and add more florals to them, ensuring the design has flow. Then I start to arrange them into my finished design.”

7. AND YOU’RE DONE!

“My finished design looks beautiful and took almost no time at all with pre-made elements.”

How did you go? Any questions — let us know!

Make sure you check out The Creative Elements and get familiar with what we have in case you need a particular thing in an emergency.

Yes, this is a little plug for one of our own brands, but honestly if a job calls for something you’re not confident with painting yourself, this trick will save so much agony. We want The Creative Elements to service you on your design journey and hope it can make your job that much easier. If you want an item we don’t already have, please reach out! We have a whole team of designers and we can jump onto creating it for you with a moments notice.

*the peony pack included in this post is free for personal use. While we like to give generously, we can’t unfortunately permit these to be on sold or used in any commercial print or project for sale. Thanks for your understanding 🙂
